The soils in the Amboseli area of Kajiado County, an area predominantly occupied by Masai, are dusty white and alkaline. The name Amboseli actually means place of alkaline dust. After a hard day of play, boys are likely to be chalk white all over their clothes and bodies! The very young children simply play within the enkang, or community, and mind the cattle herds nearby.
