The flycatcher family, Tyrranidae, is considered among the most diverse of avian groups. It has been calculated that flycatchers make up one-tenth of the land bird species in South America. In Costa Rica, the group is represented by about 75 species. Flycatchers are common over a large array of habitat types and as their name implies, they are insectivores.
