The young Maasai boys in black robes, or lubegas, are still in the process of healing after circumcision. Once initiated, they will become warriors taking over from senior warriors who will themselves get married and join  the ranks of elders.  The new warrior stage they are about to enter may last up to ten years.  The last stage is celebrated with the orngesherr, or  junior elder initiation during which time the warrior's wife will shave her husband's long hair.  Once they become junior elders, they will be allowed to build their own homesteads and oversee everything in the village.
