The Red-billed oxpecker has its' feast laid out as it gorges on the ticks and other insects dining on Lake Nakuru's zebra, buffalo, gazelle and impala. Oxpeckers are specifically adapted to feed on ticks and other insects found on mammals. Their claws are sharp and strong and their tail feathers are very stiff, similar to a wood pecker. Nakuru means "Dust or Dusty Place" in the Maasai language.
