The topi is a medium-sized antelope with a striking reddish-brown to purplish-red coat. Between four and five years of age the male topi begin to fight over its territory -- but only the strongest will win. Mating takes place in the territories. Males may also rub their horns in mud as a way of warning prospective rivals to keep off. Territories are very fragile and temporary however.
