Maasai are traditionally nomadic people. However due to influence from modern trends they are becoming more sedentary. Due to convenience brought about by proximity to tourist lodges and other amenities provided by government, charitable organizations and even missionaries, women and children may stay in more permanent homesteads while younger men move out from time to time with their herds in search of greener pasture as the need may arise.  Tourists visiting their village are encouraged to purchase crafts from the Maasai.
